The Monument for the Fallen and Murdered in the East - This is a stark, brutal reminder of the almost 2 million Poles who were removed from Eastern Poland by the Soviets and shipped farther east into Soviet-controlled territory -- including Siberia. Most history focuses on the Nazi invasion of 1 September 1939, giving scant attention to the Soviet invasion on 17 September. These operations were the result of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact signed in Moscow on 23 August. This resulted in yet another partition of Poland.
