"This benefit of seeing...can come only if you
pause a while, extricate yourself from the maddening mob of quick
impressions ceaselessly battering our lives, and look thoughtfully
at a quiet image...the viewer must be willing to pause, to look
again, to meditate."

Every once in awhile you stumble across something truly awesome. This is a photograph of an installation in the "Turbine Hall" of London's Tate Modern. The title is "The Weather Project", by Olafur Eliasson. It was showing from 16 October 2003 until 21 March 2004 and was a wonderfully appropriate use of the Turbine Hall's massive dimensions. The "sun" is actually a half-circle, and appears bisected by the mirrored ceiling. Folks on the floor of the installation can see themselves reflected above. The woman and child just happened to be there when I showed up. The child was enthralled, and the woman let him just take in and enjoy the whole experience. |
